01/08/12--13:04: Owl and Tree Stump Collage on a 6x6 Hand Printed Wood Panel (chan 1353670)

This 6x6 inch one of a kind art piece features an owl silhouette hand cut from polka dot paper over a painted and printed birch tile. This piece is lightweight and already fitted with a picture hanger on the back, so it is ready to go right up on the wall - no frame necessary. The base of the piece is a 6x6 birch tile which I first painted with completely non-toxic milk paint for an extremely matte white surface that still allows the wood grain to show through slightly. Once the paint dried I printed the background with a square vine print in blue and orange, reminiscent of wallpaper. Then I hand-cut the owl and stump from the limited production block printed paper with an exacto knife, and carefully affixed it on top.

The two initials can be joined by a little carved heart or a little + sign. The tree is decoupaged on top of a vintage book page which shows through where the initials have been carved out. Personalize this beautiful hand-cut valentine to be a keepsake for years to come. This is a one of a kind card, each book page and each tree will be a little different, so please allow for small differences.

The base for the valentine is a handmade 5x7 folded notecard made from off white linen card stock. The valentine comes with a corresponding chocolate brown envelope.

This 10x10 inch one of a kind art piece features a hand cut magenta and gold leaf raven or crow silhouette over a painted and printed birch square. This piece is lightweight and already fitted with a picture hanger on the back, so it is ready to go right up on the wall - no frame necessary. The base of the piece is an 10x10 birch tile which I first painted with completely non-toxic milk paint for an extremely matte white surface that still allows the wood grain to show through slightly. I then printed the background with a square vine print in oranges and reds, reminiscent of wallpaper. Then I hand-cut the raven silhouette from block printed decorative paper with an exacto knife, and collaged it on top.

This is an original collage made from limited production traditional decorative papers from around the world. It features 3 happy birds perched on a branch with a few spring leaves in pinks, browns, and greens. The background paper has a very subtle cityscape of silver skyscrapers on cream. It measures exact 8x10 and can be popped into any standard 8x10 frame. All of the components of this collage were hand cut from the various papers with an exacto knife and then affixed to the background paper. This is an original collage, not a print, and it is signed and dated by me on the back.

This item ships carefully packed in a secure, priority mail envelope with tracking, but if you would like a different method let me know.

This is a one of a kind original collage. It is hand cut from decorative paper and collaged over salvaged vintage book pages. (they are what is left after I make my hollow book jewelry boxes) The bunny and the letter R are cut from a chocolate brown block printed paper with pink and red polkadots. The book pages have been collaged onto heavyweight card stock to add solidity. It measures an exact 8x10, and is ready to be popped into any standard 8x10 frame. (Frame not included with this listing, but I am happy to make frame suggestions!)

02/02/12--08:01: Hollow Book Jewelry Box, Secret Compartment Book, Book Safe, Hans Christian Anderson Fairy Tales, repurposed book, vintage book (chan 1353670)

This little hollow book was made from a copy of Hans Christian Anderson's Book of Fairy Tales, printed in Denmark in 1960. It is a smaller size book, something that was perhaps made to be read by a child, or fit handily into a purse or large pocket. The cavity was hand cut with an exacto knife, and measures 4.5" x 2.75"x 1". The pages have been meticulously sealed together to create sturdy side walls and the bottom of the cavity is lined with beautiful vintage fabric of blue and white flowers. This hollow book would make a lovely and very personal gift for any book or donkey lover in your life.

Every hollow book jewelry box is a hand-cut one of a kind. I use recycled or discarded components whenever possible, which keeps the carbon footprint on this jewelry box very low. And I reuse the pages that I remove in my nature themed collages for kids and adults, see sample listing here:

This is a 5x7 hand-cut flat valentine note card. The back is a bright mottled fuchsia card stock with a cut out arrow design. The front is bright white heavyweight paper decorated with the cut out arrow from the reverse side. Valentine comes with dark chocolate brown envelope.

This little 6"x6" butterfly piece is hand cut from beautiful decorative paper and lovingly collaged onto canvas which had been pre-stretched over a wooden frame. The butterfly is cut from handmade magenta paper with large gold leaf dots. And the background is a soft yellow ladybug lace japanese midori paper. Using a combination of collage and book binding techniques, the paper is securely adhered to the canvas. It has a sawtooth picture hanger already affixed to the back, which means there's no need to spend additional money on a frame! The magenta and yellow combination is so cheerful and vibrant! This would make it a great baby gift for any mom-to-be with a little girl on the way!

I started making these animal collages soon after my son was born to hang in his nursery to add some graphic cheer. I love all the bright colors and patterns available in these hand made decorative papers and they are so fun to play with that I keep making them in different color combinations and with all different cute animal silhouettes!

This is a one of a kind original collage made from hand cut decorative paper. The elegant kitty was cut from a yellow and orange block printed decorative paper. The background paper is a beautiful soft yellow and white paper with a "ladybug lace" pattern. It measures an exact 8x10, and is ready to be popped into any standard 8x10 frame. I envision this piece in a child's room or a nursery, and I think it could make a great unisex baby gift.
